Callahan's Restaurant was a Santa Monica institution, one of the last affordable family-style diners in a city of Raw Food restaurants, farm-to-table establishments and artisanal coffee bars.
When word got out that Callahan's was closing after 68 years in business, I went to record some of the voices and sounds that made the restaurant so beloved to its many regular patrons.
The result was this non-narrated sound piece. It aired locally on Good Food and All Things Considered in 2014.
